Dan McKenzie

Dan McKenzie was born May 10, 1924 in Culdesac, Idaho. After attending grade school, he served in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and 1946 as a Firecontolman on the U.S.S Cape Gloucester. Upon returning home, he started farming in 1947 Dan several other men organized the Culdesac Gun Club and was a charter member at that time. He shot his first registered targets at Fort George Wright in Spokane.

In 1952 Dan and Darlene moved to Troy, Idaho. There hy pursued farming further by buying his own farm. He joined the Tory-Deary Gun Club in the fall of 1952 and helped move the gun club from Elk River to is present location seen miles outside of Troy. He also played a major role in the Tory-Deary Gun Club becoming the first club to join the the original seven Camas Prairie Gun Clubs.

Dan has served as President, Vice President, and Secretary on the Camas Prairie Association, and has the Idaho State Delegate for the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA). He has been the Western Zone President for five years, and he served on the executive board of the ATA five years before becoming the President in 1993. Dan also belongs to the Hi Yu Indians, Shoshone Indians, Mason, and Shriner organizations.

For the past 48 years, Dan has actively promoted the sport of trapshooting through his dedication and hardwork. For this we are proud to induct him into the Idaho Trapshooting Hall of Fame.
